What's faster in Oaklet Notes 1.1.6

Oaklet Notes ·

Oaklet Notes 1.1.6 is mostly about speed. Compared with 1.1.5, your vault unlocks much faster, vaults with thousands of notes stay smooth, very long notes and large tables open faster and keep up with your typing, and with WebDAV or Local Sync your edits reach your other devices within seconds, as long as those devices are updated and open.

You don't need to change any settings. Everything below comes with the update, and all of it except sync is in the free version too. Sync is part of Pro.

Unlocking your vault

In 1.1.5, you could wait several seconds after typing your vault password, even for a vault with only a few notes. The step that turns your password into the key for your vault was slow.

In 1.1.6 it uses the encryption code built into your operating system where that's available. Unlocking is faster on every platform. On a MacBook Pro with M2 Max, the wait after you enter your vault password went from about six seconds to about half a second. Even with 10,000 text notes, it now takes under a second.1

Your vault is protected exactly as before. The encryption is the same, and your vault files don't change. The work is just done faster.

Vaults with thousands of notes

  • Links and backlinks are ready sooner. In 1.1.5, every time you opened the app, Oaklet read through every note in the background to rebuild your links and backlinks. Now it remembers them between launches and rereads only the notes that changed. What it remembers is encrypted like the rest of your vault, stays on your device, and isn't synced. Notes protected with a note password are left out.
  • Search keeps up as you type. Results in the sidebar search no longer lag behind your typing.
  • No more brief pauses when you create a note or change its tags, pinning, or other details.
  • Saving a large attachment, such as a big PDF, no longer freezes the app.
  • Syncing no longer makes the app pause each time it runs.

Very long notes

Very long text notes open faster, and typing, scrolling, and selecting text in them stay responsive. Switching back to a tab with a long note is quicker too.

Nothing about how your notes are saved has changed.

Large tables

Large tables open faster. In 1.1.5, the first thing you typed after opening a note with a big table could pause noticeably. That long pause is gone. As you scroll through a long table, Oaklet only draws the rows on your screen.

Sync in seconds

With WebDAV or Local Sync, your changes now go out a few seconds after you stop typing, and regularly while you keep typing. While Oaklet is open on your other devices, they pick up your changes within a few seconds. In 1.1.5, a WebDAV change often waited for the next scheduled sync, every 15 minutes by default. With WebDAV, Oaklet now also checks right away when you come back to the app or unlock a vault.

What Oaklet sends to your server is encrypted, like the rest of your vault.

If your server doesn't report when files change, Settings → Sync tells you, and changes arrive at the next scheduled sync instead.

Get the update
